Reflection

Before teaching the butterfly’s life cycle I explained to my students that we would be learning about the life cycle but also be doing some fun activities to go along with the lesson, ,one of which would be like a test. This got their attention and gave them something to look forward to. While teaching the lesson this year, I gave the students a more hands-on experience. We made individual life cycles using different pastas that represented each stage of the butterfly’s life cycle. Almost everyone seemed to be able to follow, understand and enjoy the complete lesson. In addition to the pasta life cycle, I allowed my students to make booklets using drawing and writing sentences describing their pictures. During these activities, if any student needed assistance with any part, they received it. After teaching the lesson on the butterfly’s life cycle the majority of my students were able to understand and apply each stage. I noticed that using more hands-on activities and making it more about what they were doing rather than what the content was, they had more fun and retained more. I showed the students how I would like them to log on to the computer (using their log in and password) and make a PowerPoint of the life cycle. I realized getting to Microsoft PowerPoint wouldn’t be easy for every student, so they would get help with that. They weren’t graded on how they got to the program, but rather the finished product.
